Today’s note to self for our teens (and us too!):
You are responsible for your own happiness.
You are not responsible for making anyone else (such as your friends, teachers, parents, or significant others) happy, nor are they responsible for making you happy. (And as happiness is an inside job, no one can make anyone else always feel happy in the long run anyway. Trying is ultimately misspent energy.)
If you don’t like how something feels, take a step back and consider what might feel better (the kind of better that is deep and without crap-feeling side effects), and then one small thing you could do right now that would be in that direction. Then do it, see how you feel, and tweak again as needed until you like how you feel.
Happiness will be grown through the choices you make.
